March 2025 national restaurant sales metrics are here!

The trailing 4-week (28-day) average of year-over-year (YOY) sales for Fast Casual came in at +3.72% and Full Service at -0.43% at the end of March compared to 2024 sales.

Across the 7-day moving average chart, we saw positive sales throughout the month for Fast Casual, and a slight bump at the end of March for Full Service. With Mother's Day around the corner, we're looking forward to more positivity for the Full Service segment in particular!

Food costs averaged 27% of sales last month, reflecting a -1% drop from February's average.

Fresh asparagus and flour tortillas topped our Droppers list with prices -19% lower on average than in February, followed by strawberries and lemons. And at least for our Movers chart, boneless chicken thighs came before eggs, with an average +14% price increase from February. Here's our most recent national egg price chart if you're curious.

Regionally, the Northeast ended March with 7% growth and the South with 4%.

We'll see you in May!
